From their family building their wedding venue on the Aldous family property, to Joel’s mom hand crafting and wiring the incredible metal arc lit with the perfect twinkle lights (can you say romantic?!), to their friends stepping up to the plate to pull this incredible wedding off, there was so much heart poured into this Southern California DIY wedding.
Joel & Darsha are two of the kindest, most joyful people I have ever met, and I just about cried when these sweet friends of mine invited me to celebrate with them and photograph their wedding day. I had the privilege of capturing the reading of their private vows in an intimate elopement setting a few months prior, but these two wanted to celebrate with their WHOLE tribe (like 30 person bridal party and 300+ guests so yeah a biggg party.) and it was one of the most selfless days I have ever been a part of. I witnessed that selflessness not only from them as a couple, but from the people surrounding them. While Joel & Darsha cared more about their people being there to celebrate their marriage more than anything, their friends and family laid down their lives to go above and beyond to not only be there to celebrate them but to give these two the incredible wedding they deserved. Everyone chipped in their talents and efforts for this romantic DIY wedding but you wouldn’t even know it because of the insanely talented friends the Aldous’ have.
This wedding will forever be one of my favorites not because of what it looked like, but because of who Joel & Darsha are as people & supportive their tribe around them.
Also, Darsha was beaming ear to ear the ENTIRE day and her hubby Joel turned pro as a skateboarder the same night he became a husband, so they’re pretty rad (obviously pictures below).
